Domaine Marcel Lapierre Morgon 2014
From one of the greatest of the Cru Beaujolais, Morgon is the second largest of the Crus of Beaujolais. There are Six ‘Climat’ in Morgon, producing slightly different styles of wine, they are unified by ‘Les Roches Pourries’ (rotted rocks) a decomposed schist soil. Marcel Lapierre was an early adapter of the natural wine movement, viticulture and vinification using the traditional methods of Beaujolais: old vines, organic farming, manually harvested – as late as possible, hand sorting grapes, indigenous grapes, whole cluster fermentation à l’ancienne, aged on fine lees, old Burgundy barrels, and bottled unfiltered.
Domaine Marcel Lapierre Morgon 2014 is ruby coloured with subtle browning, medium intensity on the nose that is cherry packed, spicy, floral, and earthy. A dry wine, medium weight on the palate, fruity & earthy, with good acidity and no oak. Really delicious. Drinking well now, can absolutely age 5 to 10 years. Recommend decanting, it had opened up a day later with no decanting. Pair this delicious Cru Beaujolais with mushrooms, onions, lentils, sausage. Think earthy and rich- mushroom pate, mushroom toast, mushroom risotto, lentil pate, lentil soup, French Onion Soup, Caramelized Onion Tarts. Perfect for a fall brunch.
