Earl Bertrand Machard de Gramont “Les Terrasses Des Vallerots” 2011 Nuits Saint Georges
A couple of things inspired this week’s wine Phil Wilson’s (@baconhound twitter, @realbaconhound on instagram) Instagram post of Beef Bourguignon and The Marc’s Mushroom Toast. Two delicious dishes for Burgundian Wine. 80 year old vines, farmed organically with minimal intervention during wine-making by Axelle Machard de Gramont. Since taking over the family domaine, Axelle has dedicated herself to making exceptional Burgundy, beautiful wines with elegant structure and the rich fruit of the Cote de Nuits. Planted on stony, clay and limestone soils, Les Terrasses des Vallerots is aged in used barriques and all farming is done by hand. A beautiful nose with intense raspberry, wild mushrooms (ohhh, mushroom toast), dried herbs and an earthy fragrant note. The wine is very fine, with silky tannins and crisp acidity, depth and texture on the palate. A really wonderful balanced Burgundian wine. So freaking good, perfect for winter dishes like Beef Bourguignon, Mushroom Toast, Mushroom Risotto, roast Turkey, especially with mushroom stuffing.
